BIO Welcomes New Industrial Biotechnology Members as the World Congress Kicks Off in Philadelphia

Philadelphia (May 12, 2014) – The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announced that nine companies have become new members of its Industrial & Environmental Section since the start of 2014. The announcement came as BIO prepared to kick of its annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, which runs May 12 – 15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

GM Crops Increase Farmer Profits and Environmental Sustainability

Farmers around the world who use seeds improved with biotechnology are benefitting economically while improving the environmental sustainability of their farming operations according to a newly released global impacts study. The economic benefits for farmers who use genetically modified (GM) seeds amounted to an average of more than $117/hectare in 2012, according to the report “GM Crops:  Global Socio-Economic and Environmental Impacts 1996-2012” released today by PG Economics.
