BIO 2000 Internet News Room Provides Up-To-The-Minute Conference Information

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 29, 2000) -- The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) has placed on its website (www.bio.org) a BIO 2000 News Room to provide journalists with information related to the International Meeting & Exhibition scheduled for Boston March 26-30.

A conference program is posted in the BIO 2000 News Room.Some presentations, activities and featured speakers are highlighted separately.

Up-to-the-minute conference information and news releases willbe posted in the BIO 2000 News Room before and during the conference. Contact information for BIO staff members also is listed.

Members of the news media can pre-register for the conferencethrough the BIO 2000 News Room or they can register on-site any day of the meeting. Registration is complimentary for credentialed journalists and free-lancers on assignment for news organizations.

The five-day conference will be held in Boston's HynesConvention Center. The meeting is expected to attract more than 7,000 company executives, scientists, investment experts and government officials from 40 nations. More than 600 speakers will participate in 200 symposia and sessions on the latest developments in science, business and public policy.

Featured plenary session speakers include actor ChristopherReeve, paralyzed five years ago from a fall in an equestrian competition; U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass. Peter Lynch, vice chairman of FidelityManagement and Research Co.; Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack; U.S. Commerce Department Undersecretary Dr. Cheryl Shavers; and David Lander, a multiple sclerosis patient who played Squiggy on the Laverne and Shirley television sitcom.

BIO represents 900 biotech companies, academic institutions and state biotechnology centers in 47 states and 26 nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of health-care, agricultural, industrial and environmental products.
