BIO Exhibition Grows, Adding More International and Emerging Companies

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Thursday, April 17, 2008) - More than 2,200 exhibitors will showcase the latest in biotechnology and life science related products and services at the 2008 BIO International Convention Exhibition.  Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the global event for biotechnology will take place June 17-20, 2008 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

“More than 20,000 business leaders, scientists, executives, investors and industry leaders who are the drivers behind new scientific innovation will be participating in the BIO Exhibition,” said Robbi Lycett, vice president, Conventions and Conferences at BIO.  “This year, we are excited to welcome more than 100 new companies to the Exhibition and look forward to continued, quality growth in the years to come.”

The BIO Exhibition will cover 200,000 net square feet of the San Diego Convention Center and will include more than 70 domestic and international pavilions.   New country pavilions for 2008 include:  Brazil, Chili, Dubai, Portugal, and South Africa.   An Emerging Technologies Zone will provide a venue for first time exhibitors, including early stage and start-up companies, to get their ideas and new products in front of the industry’s top decision makers.

The BIO Exhibition will also feature 11 Product Focus Zones, including a newly expanded BIO Process Zone:

  • Bio Process – Free theater presentations will be organized by BioProcess International Magazine
  • Industrial  - Free theater presentations will be organized by Genetic Engineering Biotechnology News
  • Products and Services
  • Therapeutics
  • Molecular Diagnostics - Free theater presentations will be organized by Genetic Engineering Biotechnology News
  • Clinical Trials - Free theater presentations will be organized by Genetic Engineering Biotechnology News

Five new Product Focus Zones include:

·         Bio IT

·         Clean Rooms

·         Drug Delivery

·         Lab Automation

·         Intellectual Property

“The new Product Focus Zones were added to increase value for our attendees,” added Margaret Core, director, Sales and Marketing at BIO.  “As the BIO International Convention increases in size and scope, it is important to make it as easy as possible to see all the products and services that are important to our attendees in the time they have available within the BIO Exhibition.  By offering the Product Focus Zones, we have enabled our attendees to quickly find what interests them on the floor, enhance their experience, and increase value for exhibitors as well.”

In addition to the Product Focus Zone groupings, show management has created a comprehensive search engine with the myBIO event planner, which allows all attendees to locate specialty areas and exhibitors.  The myBIO tool is an added attendee service which was utilized by more than 50% of attendees in 2007.
