BIO Hails U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Vaccine Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tuesday, February 22, 2011) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) issued the following statement commending today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in Bruesewitz v. Wyeth:

“Today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court rightly reaffirms the fundamental underpinnings of the National Childhood Vaccine Act.  The ruling confirms that expert federal agencies, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, are best suited to determine the optimal design of life-saving childhood vaccines.  In addition, the ruling recognizes the critical balance struck by the Vaccine Act to promote the development of advanced and even safer vaccines while providing a system for the fair resolution of injury claims. This ruling is a win for public health, a win for our nation’s children and a win for the continued development and innovation in the area of vaccines.”
