Major Study Of Biotech Research On Age-Related Diseases To Be Released At BIO 2000

WASHINGTON, DC (March 23, 2000) The Alliance for Aging Research will release the first ever profile of biotechnology companies focusing on age-related diseases and offer recommendations for advancing their work at BIO 2000, March 26-30, in Boston.

The study, titled "The Dawn of Gero-Technology: Pioneers in Aging and Regenerative Medicine," will be presented at an 11:30 a.m. press conference Monday, March 27, in Rooms 108-109 of the Hynes Convention Center, headquarters for BIO 2000. Two other press conferences scheduled for Monday are announcements by Queensland, Australia, Premier Peter Beattie at 2 p.m. and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development at 3 p.m.

BIO 2000 is the annual International Meeting &Exhibition of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). More than 7,000 executives, scientists, patient advocates, investment experts and government officials from about 40 nations are expected to attend the five-day conference. More than 700 speakers will participate in 200 symposia and sessions on the latest developments in science, business and public policy.

The Alliance for Aging Research report profiles more than two dozen biotech companies and was produced with a grant from the independent philanthropic Glenn Foundation for medical research in Santa Barbara, Calif. Speakers at the press conference include Daniel Perry, executive director of the Alliance, and Dr. William A. Haseltine, chairman and CEO of Human Genome Sciences.

Queensland Priemer Beattie's press conference will begin at 2 p.m. An announcement by Maryland Business and Economic Development Secretary Richard Lewin and Montgomery County, Md., Executive Douglas Duncan will follow at 3 p.m.
