Mount Everest Climber, Naomi Judd and Biotech Pioneers Among Featured Speakers at BIO 2001
In addition to addressing conference attendees, Goldin will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with BIO President Carl B. Feldbaum to expand cooperative science programs aboard the International Space Station. Six-time Grammy Award winner Naomi Judd joins other patients who have benefited from biotechnology drugs – she suffered from hepatitis C. Alan Hobson climbed Mount Everest three times in addition to having been diagnosed with leukemia and treated with therapies developed through biotechnology.
Also speaking are the recipients of the 2001 Biotechnology Heritage Award, Dr. Francis Collins of the National Human Genome Research Institute and Dr. J. Craig Venter of Celera Genomics Corporation. Both scientists managed research efforts that led to the mapping of the human genome – one the greatest achievements in scientific history.
BIO 2001 Plenary Sessions will also feature noted San Diego-based economist Art Laffer, inventor of the famous “Laffer Curve,” Vernon Ellis, international chairman of Accenture, and Michael Jackson, head of international discovery at Johnson & Johnson.
