Research Breakthroughs in Biofuels and Biobased Products a Focus of World Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 20, 2007) – The 2007 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing will host university, government and industry researchers exploring cutting-edge science and production methods in ethanol, ethanol from cellulose, bioplastics and chemicals. The fourth annual World Congress runs March 21-24 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Brent Erickson, executive vice president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s Industrial & Environmental Section, said, “The World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing is the premiere gathering for researchers and businesses in industrial biotechnology, bioenergy and bioprocessing. This year’s conference will present the latest innovations, market achievements and policy developments in the industrial and environmental applications of biotechnology. The goal of this event is to attract participants with a wide variety of perspectives on industrial biotech and to speed technology transfer and commercialization of new biotech advancements.”

During three days of panel discussions at the World Congress, researchers from universities, government agencies and industrial biotechnology companies will present the latest research and development and new projects to commercialize biobased products. Panel sessions include:
