Sponsor of New Calif. Stem Cell Law to Address BIO VentureForum 2002
Sacramento) will be available for media interviews to discuss the new state law endorsing embryonic stem cell research, including nuclear transplantation, tomorrow during the BIO VentureForum 2002 conference at the Palace Hotel.
California Gov. Gray Davis signed Senate Bill 253 in September, making California the first state to endorse stem cell research. Stem cell research is a promising area that could be a new pathway to finding cures for intractable diseases. The law, sponsored by Ortiz, creates a review process for stem cell research that allows the state government to fund this emerging field of biomedical research. The law will also enable scientists to start new cell lines for laboratory research in California.
