CONGRESSIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY BRIEFING - JUNE 6, 2001 by Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 4, 2001) – Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is conducting a congressional breakfast briefing on biotechnology on June 6, at 8:30 a.m. in Room B-340 of Rayburn House Office Building. Representative Michael E. Capuano (D-MA) is hosting the event.

Millennium Pharmaceuticals Chief Technology Officer Mike Pavia will discuss the biotechnology industry as it relates to medicine and the current health care debate in his briefing entitled “Understanding Biotechnology in Medicine: From Drug Discovery to Development.”

This briefing is scheduled to be the first in a series of congressional briefings on critical issues involving biotechnology, including patenting and licensing, privacy concerns, and cloning.

BIO represents more than 950 biotechnology companies,academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in all 50 U.S. states and 33 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of health care, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.
