Representative Inslee Honored as BIO Legislator of the Year
“As sponsor of the Patient Protection and Innovative Biologic Medicines Act, Representative Inslee has been a proponent of issues critical to our nation’s biotech economy. This bill fundamentally changed the dynamics of the biosimilars debate,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “Representative Inslee’s work ensures the biotechnology industry will remain a vibrant, research-intensive industry integral to patient health, while at the same time creating a pathway for the approval of follow-on biologics.”
"Congressman Inslee has distinguished himself as a strong leader for national policy that will help our nation’s biotechnology sector thrive and benefit people everywhere. His influential voice has helped to protect patient care and preserve incentives for innovation,” said Dr. Jack Faris, President of the Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association. “On behalf of all Washington life sciences companies, we salute Congressman Inslee’s efforts. He is a true friend to our bioscience community and the patients that we serve."
During the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In, more than 200 biotechnology industry representatives from 36 states, including Washington, will participate in hundreds of meetings with key Members of the House and Senate. Participants will discuss issues critical to the biotechnology industry, including follow-on biologics, FDA appropriations, biofuels, and patent reform.
The award was presented at 11 a.m. in Representative Inslee’s Washington, D.C. office.
