Fireside Chats Announced for 2016 BIO International Convention
Washington, D.C. (April 12, 2016) – The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), announced the first two fireside chats for its upcoming International Convention, taking place June 6 - 9 in San Francisco, California. A new feature at the event, the fireside chats will be one-on-one conversations with government, education and industry leaders.
Dr. Robert Califf, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be the first up on Tuesday, June 7 from 11:00AM – 12:00PM. As the top official of the FDA, Dr. Califf is committed to strengthening programs and policies that enable the agency to carry out its mission to protect and promote the public health. He is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine where he spent time as a professor of medicine and vice chancellor for clinical and translational research. He will be interviewed by Steve Usdin, Senior Editor, Washington, BioCentury.
From 2:00PM- 3:00PM on June 7, BIO Convention attendees can sit down with Janet Napolitano, President of the University of California. Napolitano leads a university system with 10 campuses, five medical centers, three affiliated national laboratories, and a statewide agriculture and natural resources program. She is a distinguished public servant with a record of leading large, complex organizations including the Department of Homeland Security, where she served as Secretary from 2009-13; she was also the Governor of Arizona from 2003-09 and Attorney General of Arizona from 1998-2003. Napolitano will be interviewed by BIO’s President and CEO, Jim Greenwood.
