Prospectus for 2nd Annual PMC/BIO Solutions Summit Series:

Integrating Personalized Medicine into Health Care

The Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) and the Biotechnology Industry Association (BIO) are convening a national summit, Integrating Personalized Medicine into Health Care, on October 14, 2015 at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Washington, D.C. to examine the integration of personalized medicine into the health care system. The summit will focus on the adoption of personalized medicine beyond the challenges of reimbursement and regulation of these products.

The science driving personalized medicine continues to push innovation in medicine toward better patient care. However, the successful integration of personalized medicine into health care delivery requires the right knowledge, infrastructure and incentives. As the number of personalized diagnostics and therapies increases, providers face the challenge of staying current on the latest advances. Finding novel and effective ways to deliver the most current information to providers so they can select appropriate therapies must be a priority for the field. Only through the work of all stakeholders can we ensure that the adoption of personalized medicine continues in a manner that shifts medicine away from historical practices.

The Summit will examine solutions to key challenges facing personalized medicine, including:

• The relationship between published evidence, clinical guidelines and the actual utilization of personalized medicine products in the clinic
• The efficiency of utilization of personalized medicine products throughout the health care ecosystem
• The widespread and adequate education regarding the use of personalized medicine products among providers, patients and payers.

Pre-Summit Focus Groups

To inform the Summit, PMC and BIO will host focus groups comprised of leaders from industry and health care institutions, health care system design experts, payers and patient advocates. These focus groups will discuss perspectives on the challenges facing the adoption of personalized medicine products, and discuss potential solutions to any identified barriers.

Summit Goals

Identify the key barriers beyond regulation and reimbursement that may inhibit the uptake and adoption of personalized medicine products in the clinical setting.

Articulate one or more solutions to issues identified in pre-Summit focus group meetings or raised at the Summit, so that all stakeholders can work to further develop and implement them.

Who Should Attend

Representatives from self-insured employers, pharmacy benefit managers, investors, personalized medicine diagnostic developers and manufacturers, federal policymakers and representatives from patient organizations, provider specialty societies and clinical research organizations.
